83 per cent of landowners have a favourable opinion of energy pipeline companies
Calgary, AB. – <May 27, 2009> – Alberta landowners with pipeline crossings on their land reveal positive relations with the Canadian pipeline industry. Contrary to allegations from a small minority of disgruntled landowners and community activists, a recent study indicates that 83 per cent of landowners have a favourable opinion of the energy pipeline company(s) passing through on their land.
The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) partnered with Ipsos Reid, one of the world’s leading survey-based marketing research firms, and commissioned a landowner survey that provides detailed information on the attitudes landowners have with CEPA member companies and their pipelines. Ipsos Reid collected data from 884 landowners as part of the research and contacts were selected on a random basis.
“The cooperation and feedback from landowners is extremely valuable to us,” said Brenda Kenny, President, CEPA. “We truly consider them our neighbours. We have worked and lived with landowners throughout the life of our industry, and we work to maintain an effective and positive relationship with them.” Overall, landowners provided very high favourability ratings of the pipeline companies operating on their land. Survey results report that 81 per cent of landowners feel the pipeline sector is doing a good job when it comes to public safety and protection. With regards to environmental matters, three quarters of landowners think pipeline companies do a good job at protecting the surroundings.
Other key findings include:
- 94 per cent of landowners state that the pipeline industry is very important to the Canadian economy.
- 83 per cent of individuals have never had a problem with a pipeline company and believe they are kept well informed about the physical locations of pipelines.
